Butter knives. This is so good.

You could do a series on world governments, putting them on a "degree of bloodiness" scale.

Canada. USA. UK. France. Germany, etc., including the "bad" guys--that would extend the scale!

Yuck...what an embarressment ! Mr. Dress-up, Mama's brain, Daddy's (?) name should never have sat in Parliament. We, in B.C. have yet to recover from the Conservatives, so no go. N.D.P. too weak. I have given up on all of them....but still vote....for the least offensive.

I remember when the NDP represented the many. I went away for a year between 1974 & 75. The NDP was in power when I left. Bill Bennett & the Conservatives were in power in 1975 & groceries had gone up exponentially. So had everything! Under Bennett we experienced oneof the worst economic collapses! Homeowners defaulted on mortgages with double-digits!

Harper's Conservatives did the same. I'm praying for NDP. As a woman, a Pierre Poilievre & Conservative federal government would be disastrous!

Amazing! A cartoon in a foreign language. :>)

oops, that was before I read the explanation below the art.

A great cartoon, like any art form, does several things for me: I learn something (every month has an Ides part). I'm reminded of something (history repeats). I recognize something (yes Canadians are polite-ish). I'm charmed by something (creativity is so wonderful). I'm challenged by something (hey! Trudeau isn't THAT bad!). Michael ticks all the boxes here.

We are polit-ish. We get the polite wrap because we say "sorry" instead of "excuse me."

Expand full comment

Long ago I was taught that “Excuse me” means “May I be excused?” and “Pardon me” means “I beg your pardon” or “I am sorry.”

Every time I hear “Excuse me” I want to reply “Yes, you may leave.”

Yes, I am old.

People here in the USA hardly excuse themselves anymore. That makes politeness even more quaint. We have become a nation of brats.

I wish this were incorrect. Speaking as an American deeply discouraged about the state of my country: it is not.

Mr deAdder, you do good work! This is so funny! I’ll be laughing and grinning all day long or maybe for the next week or month? ✌️💞

Your wry wit in the closing, likening it to Caesar's Ides, was perfect!

This cabal of grousing MPs choosing to 'plot' an Ides-like coup isn't unexpected. Pierre Poilievre is conceivably the worst possible PM for Canada. His campaign sounds more like a Trump ad & his policies are almost identical. He offers no explanation to cover the cost of his cuts & pushes oil ignoring the reality of Climate Change.

Yes, Justin Trudeau has broken promises since being elected, but he's not the worst PM. Poilievre is a Harper acolyte, and Harper was the worst modern-day PM. IMHO. Canada sagged under the weight of his gov't.

Canadians, and Canada, is so lame, Canada has never had a 'civil war'...it loves being the slave of the UK Parliament..

yet there are crickets everywhere, I remember everyone saying 'peaceful protest'..what the HELL does that even do!! And then you have those that feel the need to comment, and like being mute to the ridiculous control that Loyalists still have in Canada.. Canadians have no clue, at all! they are fools in believing that an election will liberate them, Some people NEED to read the premise to the Civil War, the King did the EXACT same thing as this Liberal government is doing.. and Americans had enough, some people need to read history, and stop being so ignorant!

FOOLS, CANADIANS ARE FOOLS! passive!

I like that we politely asked to be our own country and didn't go to war. The United States has never stopped fighting it's Civil War. It's still going on today.

I know that US anger has crept across the border and it scares me. Don’t want that here please

that is Canadian weakness, 'peaceful protests'....when the French felt that they were pushed by the government. due to retirement policies. They revolted, Canadians were so mute, on lockdowns, business being played by 'by-laws' to shut them down. Lockdowns/passports, participation in society. Muted, quite.. I mean its like being abused by the abuser and thanking them! Canada needs backbone. All throughout history, Europeans they know how to do civil disobedience, its like Canadians look down on you when someone slaps you in the face and you bend down for more. Even thou Americans are going through the same its not a civil war, but a breakdown in society. Same fate as the Roman Empire...no God no country!

At least Americans have the patriotism to their country, in Canada, we shun our National Anthem, and REVISED it, what a disgrace! and removed Sir John A Macdonald, without a revolt from the people. History is being removed at record speed... yes the butter knives represent how weak and non confrontational Canadians. Are... they are just frustrating! American patriotism out shines our country, Americans are not perfect but they know where they stand and they have been infiltrated as we have by communism.
