This is a great historical example of why we all need to crowd-fund independent thinkers like Michael de Adder. I don't always agree with his political cartoons, but they are always thoughtful and provocative. And we need a whole lot more of that independence, these days. Thanks, Michael.

Well, he was a dick.

Understatement of the day, even though it's early.

Considering his lead in pushing for Christian Evangelicalism, and where we are with that now, I think that cartoon was spot on!

Outstanding! The only cartoon of Falwell ever needed.

I didn’t know you back then, but you would later become my favorite political cartoonist. I am so glad you posted the cartoon and story. Both my husband and I had moms who were taken advantage of by preachers like Falwell. My mom would not buy meat for her herself because she believed needed the money to send to con men preachers like Falwell. Thank you for expressing my rage.

I can see you got a new computer, Michael. The contrast between your Falwell cartoons were perfect and so unexpected. Bravo.

As I say to my friends: we are in for a very bumpy ride.

And now, the Americans will pay the price of the carny & his prolific bullyaires. STOP & Start Again!

Everytime I see one of your old cartoons I remember how they remain applicable even years later.

That is your brilliance

I never saw this one. Terrific and spot on as always! I'm grateful you shared it again, Michael. We need the reminder of where his kind have led the US since then.

deAdder, your experience clearly defines future trends across social media. It’s characteristic of the American mindset to lean toward reactionary behaviour. I’ve witnessed the transformative impacts firsthand, exceptionally how some choose the worst paths, engaging in self-gaslighting—exemplified by Trump, MAGA followers, and similar groups. Ugh!...

Wow! Quelle catastrophe! In 2000 I was a neophyte to the internet. I joined FB in 2007. But I learned a lesson that I'll never forget & your experience just reminded me.

I was looking for a funny Internet birthday card for a friend turning 50. In my search engine, I typed "funny adult birthday card" (to differentiate it from a kid's card). I turned away from my desktop & when I looked back, there was a line along the bottom of my screen that wasn't there before. It appeared to be squeezing tighter & thinner by the minute. I didn't know what it was, so I tried a 3-finger 'Ctrl-Alt-Delete' on the line. It didn't work. But what opened was totally unexpected. I instantly learned how keyword searches worked; 'adult' was my big mistake.

Links flooded into that line. It looked like a solid line, getting more compact by the minute. I tried deleting them one by one, but that was useless. So in a panic I did what I was told to never do, I pulled the cable connection from it's wall jack. The screen went black; my computer off. I feared I'd lost a lot of important work. So I called my tech friend, crying. Help!

He did... and he laughed at my naivety. I got schooled.

I'm just grateful my stupidity didn't go nationwide!

Way back when, my husband and I were mildly concerned with what our kids could see on the Internet. So we typed "sex". We were absolutely dumbstruck. The unbelievably weird stuff we got. The good ole days.

Yep! I absolutely freaked! I had no idea the floodgate I opened. 😲

"For days, I was stuck in a Sisyphean loop of downloading and deleting emails just to keep my computer alive." The next time I'm wishing for fame I'll review your experience Michael and thank heaven for being just a regular guy who enjoys your work. I know this for sure, as long as we all take our freedoms seriously we can never be 'cancelled'. (btw I sent you an email recently;)
