Oh gawd! I've seen her illustrated many ways, but Trump burying Lady Liberty is devastating. You've put pen to paper & illustrated a communal fear that this tempestuous term is burying any hope for the reclamation of Democracy. Despondency is hard to fight, MdA. ⚖️🕯🇺🇸
Citizenship and neighborliness can be depressing some days, too. Sociopaths like Trump and losers around them end up in bunkers, terrified of those they bamboozled: those they finessed into selling, abdicating, or donating their souls to enrich a few.
If I can be forgiven for pluralizing the single figure in the last stanza of William Ernest Henley's poem, "Invictus" this is the reality of what's afoot and affords more uplifting and familiar results:
"We are the masters of our fate,
We are the captains of our souls."
That English is the official language of diplomats, pilots, and the U.N. (not German!), argues that collectively, we can (and have done) anything that needs doing.
Reminds me of what he did to his first wife, Ivana and buried her at his Bedminster golf course and was able to avoid taxes since it now has a cemetery on the grounds.
I think that TACO's behaviour will get worse but...I think the whole Country will rise up and fight back when they realize he's trying to steal their Republic out from under them.
I might suggest that the Ninth Amendment also applies. James Madison despised it. I am sure that Scalia and other "originalists" did as well. No matter. It remains in the Constitution and it speaks to some of us.
Google: The 9th Amendment to the United States Constitution protects rights that are not specifically listed in the Constitution, stating that the enumeration of specific rights in the Constitution does not mean other rights, retained by the people, are not also protected. It's a part of the Bill of Rights and ensures that the government cannot claim the only rights protected are those explicitly mentioned.
Hard to think about what’s ahead; can hope for more pushback I suppose… my observation was that his tie was too short today, did he wear his grade school size to do his digging? Maybe all the regular ones are in the laundry, or maybe he’s turned over a new leaf after tripping on the usual ones while boarding the plane 😉
I sent your recent cartoon with McDavid and Carney to my hockey loving family tonight🙂 You are such a talent Michael! I love following you here so I can see more of your work and not only what individual papers “want” to publish- all the best!
Fortunately, he did not need to have a similar response for the January 6th "Normal Political Discourse" , as the National Republican Committee phrased it. Good thing you live in Canada or Trump may threaten to arrest you like he has with Newsom.
You heard it here first. There may be no presidential election in the US in 2028. Trump could stir up some drastic domestic or even international incident and declare a major national emergency, and then suspend the presidential election. Thus enabling him to remain in office until . . . ? And the Congress and SCOTUS being loyal and/or afraid of him will let him get away with it.

I'm sorry. I do try to be impactful. My job can be quite depressing some days.

I love your work! Your insightful & too-the-point toons can't always make us smile or kibbitz gleefully.
It's this human monolith trying to accelerate the devolution of Democracy!
NB: The artifact monolith, from 2001: A Space Odyssey, was intended to accelerate lifeforms & human evolution. It was a builder, not a destroyer.
I can't imagine your conflicted feelings, bringing reality to life on two dimensions.🕯✌️

Practice makes perfect. No? He's just so despicable.
Absolutely the worst.

We can all live in hope for that.
"Lest we forget..."
Devastating. Once again. So very glad you’re in a place where can you do this!

I can't disagree.
These are not happy times.
You are always on point.

He does like to stir up the shit. Meet me at the No Kings Rally.

That was impactful. Thanks.
Brilliant and painstakingly accurate!
This needs wide public viewing.
