Wonderful, Michael deAdder ♡ The one true humanitarian president ever. President Jimmy Carter was underrated, in large part due to a failure to return the US hostages. But his legacy is secured by a life of service to others. He was a fine human being.
I always felt the hostages' return on January 20th 1981, was far too convenient to be coincidence. To happen on the very day of Reagan's inauguration? The Algiers Accord was signed by President Carter January 19th, 1981. Reagan's finger was on that scale & his was a presidency marred by scandal.
Unger wrote the story about what I suspected 40 years ago. The Republicans know no depth to which they won't stoop & Donald Trump has been the dupe of Putin for years. History repeats itself because we refuse to learn the lesson & apply it.
Most honorable president in my lifetime. And I've been through 13. What other ex-president devoted his life to helping others? Habitat for Humanity instead of cushy consulting jobs. Thank you, President Jimmy Carter.
Yes, you have captured a truly decent politician, a Nobel Prize Winner and a far cry from this next American president a pathetic blow-hard with zero respect from anyone
What strikes me as amazing is how Jimmy Carter’s belief in God truly directed his life and was never used as a cudgel. It was just an aspect of his character. Yet he lived and breathed his faith in all that he did, especially after his time in office. I cannot imagine any of our phony “Christian” politicians nowadays giving up their power and perks to live simply and do good works for those in need. When one of them dares to pull out the religion card, think of Jimmy Carter.
This sums up the valour and commitment of responsible leadership and uncompromisied nobility of character that we need to sustain our humanity and one another.
Thank you for acknowledging that we can do decent presidents. Maybe the present one will have a similar legacy - not popular in office but his decency ultimately acknowledged.
We have lost a true statesman.

But he DID return the hostages; the Iranian ayatollah deliberately delayed their release until Regan’s inauguration day.

Read “Den of Spies” by Craig Unger.
