I just watched a young black man, 19, in Chicago, who left a store with his white sister-in-law because the store was suddenly overrun with ICE & they didn't know what was going on.
An ICE agent grabbed the young man & threw him on the ground. His sil started screaming, "He's an American citizen. Why are you doing this?" The ICE agent quickly covered his face with his mask & told her she didn't understand what was going on and to back off!
She asked, "Why are you arresting him? He hasn't done anything!" The agent said, "He was running out of the store."
NOTE: From the video, everyone was hurriedly leaving the premises!
They moved him to nearby Rogers Park, but still wouldn't release him. He hadn't stolen anything, and his sil said he has no criminal record. It's very lucky this is all on video.
*The ICE agents were surly & belligerent. Maybe if they took a moment & didn't act without cause, people wouldn't yell at them. He wasn't the only one taken down!
I'm awaiting an update from my friend. She tells me in 30 years of living on The Loop & seeing some pretty scary things since 2020, she had never witnessed something like this.
Not a robbery. Not a shootout. Not an MVA. Just people scared when ICE stormed in like they were after someone.
BTW: Rogers Park has what's called "Whistle Protocol". They encourage bystanders witnessing ICE encounters to 'Stay Loud & protect each other', but NO VIOLENCE!
