Basically, if Trump decides to go to war with Iran, don’t expect Congress to stop him — and that’s kind of become the norm. But this isn’t a normal power grab by Trump. Presidents from both parties have been bypassing Congress on military decisions for years, and while a few lawmakers might raise objections or push symbolic resolutions, they rarely amount to much. The truth is, ever since the Iraq War and Obama’s failed attempt to get Congress to back strikes in Syria, lawmakers have gotten cold feet about voting on force. Presidents ignoring Congresss isn’t another Trump outrage, this is an outrage that has existed before his first term.
