I won a Reuben* for Editorial Cartoonist of the Year

Thank you, National Cartoonist Society

First, sorry I wasn’t there in person to receive this storied award. Last minute personal issues made it impossible to attend. I almost had the ticket in my hand before fate snatched it from my grasp.

Second, thanks for naming me Editorial Cartoonist of the Year for my work at the Washington Post.

It’s not easy to judge these things. I have done it myself. It’s hard to pick when you have talents like my fellow nominees like Michael Ramirez [The Washington Post] and Reuben Bolling. [Tom the Dancing Bug]

Tom the Dancing Bug is one of my favourite cartoon strips.

This award is a category within the broader Reuben Awards, which are considered among the most prestigious awards in the cartooning industry.

  The Reuben Award for Editorial Cartooning specifically acknowledges a cartoonist who has demonstrated excellence in creating editorial cartoons, which typically involve commentary on political, social, or cultural issues, often with a humorous or satirical edge. The award is part of the NCS's efforts to celebrate and promote the art and craft of cartooning in various forms, including comic strips, comic books, and animation, among others.
