One of the truly greats has died.
Pat Oliphant (1935–2025) was widely regarded as one of the greatest editorial cartoonists of the modern era. Born in Adelaide, Australia, he began his career there before moving to the United States in 1964, where his razor-sharp wit, fearless political satire, and extraordinary drawing skills made him a giant in American journalism. Over a career spanning more than five decades, Oliphant won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1967, which is the year I was born.
My influences were mostly Canadian. Terry Mosher, Roy Peterson and Duncan MacPhearson. But outside of Canada I’d add Herblock, David Low, Honore Daumier and Pat Oliphant.

You, sir, continue the extraordinary work of those who influenced your work!
A tremendous talent lost, but we're lucky to have so much of his work available to enjoy—and to have successors such as you.
