Living so close to America, Canadians also get your pop references. We also grew up with the Schoolhouse Rock, an American animated musical series of short educational films that aired on ABC during Saturday morning kids’ TV. It covered topics like grammar, science, economics, history, math, and civics. In fact Canadians grew up understanding the American system better than the Canadian system.
I'm just a bill.
Yes, I'm only a bill.
And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill.
Well, it's a long, long journey
To the capital city.
It's a long, long wait
While I'm sitting in committee,
But I know I'll be a law some day
At least I hope and pray that I will
But today I am still just a bill.
How naive to think it was just this [↑↑] simple. The song didn’t mention grandstanding, calling press conferences, leaking details to the media, holding up props on the floor, attacking opponents personally, invoking the founding fathers, quoting historical figures out of context, appealing to patriotism, fearmongering, promising unrealistic benefits, accusing the other side of corruption, staging photo ops, tweeting inflammatory statements, filibustering, offering symbolic amendments, rallying supporters outside the chamber, demanding floor votes for show, and walking out in protest.
Godbilla!!!
Good one! I remember Schoolhouse Rock and I did learn a lot...What a sad state that country has sunk to now.
